Wouter and Andrea left the Netherlands in August 2006 and headed for Western Australia, Perth.
For already a couple of years we thought about volunteering at a school in Sri Lanka, the John Knox International School in Nuwara Eliya. Since we will leave Holland anyway, we decided to combine these two things: August 15 we hope to fly to Perth to get the last stamp we need in our passport. End of August we hope to travel to Sri Lanka and stay there 'till the end of the year. Afterwards we will return to Australia and try to get our life up to speed again.

Interview

Today had another job interview: after Christmas things tend to speed up more, so I got a couple of invitations for an interview. The one of today was with a product company as where most other IT companies over here seem to be more service companies. The last job in Holland with Tieto was in a service company, but it looks like I prefer a product company: going out to customers with a product in stead of trying to sell services. The position was for team lead / project manager, so we will just wait. I hope to get a couple of offers in the coming week(s) and have the luxury to pick the one I most like.
Meanwhile Andrea received her registration as teacher this week, so she has now all the papers required for having a teacher's position here in WA. That was one thing we thought about when choosing between Perth and Adelaide: here in Perth Andrea would have to apply for the registration (including an English test, an interview etc.) In Adelaide things looked simpler when she checked it out on the Internet. But ... everything worked out, no big problems with getting the registration.

We just had two cooler days here in Perth, just over 20 degrees and even rain during the night! But temperature is rising again to low thirties, back to normal! But having a higher humidity in the air always gives lots of nice sunsets (this one taken from within our backyard).
