Wouter and Andrea left the Netherlands in August 2006 and headed for Western Australia, Perth.
For already a couple of years we thought about volunteering at a school in Sri Lanka, the John Knox International School in Nuwara Eliya. Since we will leave Holland anyway, we decided to combine these two things: August 15 we hope to fly to Perth to get the last stamp we need in our passport. End of August we hope to travel to Sri Lanka and stay there 'till the end of the year. Afterwards we will return to Australia and try to get our life up to speed again.

Bunbury

Last Saturday we visited Bunbury, the second largest town in WA. Knowing that about 90% of the people here in WA live in Perth and suburbs, do not expect Bunbury to be a big city. It however has several beautiful beaches and although it is summer vacation over here and it was a Saturday, we were still pretty much the only ones on the beach. Only at the beach right next to the down town area were some other people as well.

View over Bunbury

Bunbury is about 180 kilometres south of Perth and can be reached via the Great Southern Highway. Thinking of highways in Holland ... no, this is different and although the name suggests some nice multi-lane road, the truth is somewhat different: just one lane each direction, going from one small town to another and almost nothing in between. And so many land for sale signs, something we never encountered in Holland.

Today started again with interviewing at a couple of companies. Hope to make a choice next week and be able to start working again. Most probably the office will be in Perth C(entral)B(usiness)D(istrict) and I'm really lucky that we live close by the railway station: it just takes me 30 minutes to go from Kelmscott to Perth CBD. That is an easy commute, compared to what I was used to in Holland.
