Wouter and Andrea left the Netherlands in August 2006 and headed for Western Australia, Perth.
For already a couple of years we thought about volunteering at a school in Sri Lanka, the John Knox International School in Nuwara Eliya. Since we will leave Holland anyway, we decided to combine these two things: August 15 we hope to fly to Perth to get the last stamp we need in our passport. End of August we hope to travel to Sri Lanka and stay there 'till the end of the year. Afterwards we will return to Australia and try to get our life up to speed again.

Our not recognized recognized driver's licence

Living in a new country, getting your driver's licence again. We already have our Dutch licence, our Californian licence and now we had to apply for the third one: a Western Australian driver's licence. Learning the theory for the multiple choice test, getting a translation of our Dutch licence and up to the office. The first lady just filled in the forms, we had an eye test and that was it, no theory test, no practical test. However, the second person thought that a Dutch licence was not recognized here in WA, so we would have to go for the theory test and the practical test. Ok, we did the multiple choice test and passed it without any problem. Coming back to the desk we were helped by a third person and she said that a Dutch licence was recognized here in WA, so there was no need for a theory test and/or practical test. Oh, well...
Anyway, we just had to pay, have our picture taken and the licence will be in the mail in a couple of days!

This afternoon we hiked in the Darlin Range, a regional park close by. Today it is a little bit more cloudy and the temperature was just below 30, so a good time to go out. Just 10 minutes driving and we were in the middle of nowhere. It is really dry here, shortage of water. Some minor bush fires in the area. But good to have a cooler day and be able to hike!
